Yinson & Provaris & Himile: Tripartite Collaboration to Accelerate Large-Scale Deployment of Core Floating CCS Equipment
Amid global decarbonization, carbon capture and storage is a cornerstone of energy transition, with Floating Storage and Injection Units (FSIUs) relying on large-scale production to drive industry progress. Under this background, Singapore's Yinson Production, Australia-listed Provaris, and China's Himile Heavy Equipment have launched a tripartite partnership to speed up industrialized manufacturing of LCO2 tanks, the core of FSIUs.
Under the signed MoU, the trio will collaborate at Himile's Rushan base in Shandong, China, focusing on LCO2 tank cost assessment, production feasibility, and preliminary design of robotic production facilities. Parallel to FEED work, Yinson will lead studies on tank transportation to shipbuilders and integration into under-development FSIUs which are critical steps for CCS value chain commercialization.
Building on their joint development agreement, Yinson and Provaris already operate a JV for large LCO2 tanks. Their fully Yinson-funded FEED studies, launched in August 2024, are advancing with DNV class approval underway, targeting mid-2026 tank certification post detailed design and testing. Himile's capacity strengthens the collaboration: its Qidong offshore yard secured marine approval and will start mid-2026 operations, with 200,000-tonne annual module capacity and space for two FPSO outfittings simultaneously. As global energy transition gains pace, such international partnerships are key to advancing CCS deployment and accelerating offshore decarbonization.
