Global subsea technology leader OneSubsea has announced a significant contract with CNOOC to deliver integrated subsea production systems for 20 wells at the high-value Kaiping 18-1 deepwater oilfield in the South China Sea. This landmark collaboration aligns world-class subsea technologies with China's fast-growing deepwater E&P ambitions, accelerating production capacity of the Kaiping South oilfield cluster and strengthening national energy security.
As a joint venture of SLB, Aker Solutions and Subsea 7, OneSubsea will provide full EPC delivery including dual ESP systems, gas lift, gas injection horizontal trees, manifolds, connectors, control systems, and full lifecycle installation and commissioning support. The integrated architecture simplifies system complexity, improves operational efficiency, and enables future expansion, while the one-stop EPC model shortens offshore schedules, lowers costs and enhances safety for large-scale deepwater development.
Located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, approximately 300 km from Shenzhen, Kaiping 18-1 holds 102 million tons of oil equivalent and represents the world's largest commercial discovery in a nuclear sag domain. A custom-built 100,000-ton cylindrical FPSO is set to connect seamlessly with the subsea system for on-site processing, storage and offloading.
This partnership marks a milestone in global-local collaboration for China's offshore industry, driving technological upgrading and capability building in deepwater engineering.
